Our History
Founded in 1973
Horizons Residential Care Center has been a part of the Winston-Salem, Rural Hall, and greater Forsyth County area, since 1973 when the Junior League of Winston-Salem chartered the first Horizons home for children living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and extensive support needs. The Horizons Board of Directors, led by Mrs. Will P. Hanes, sought to bring meaningful residential services to Forsyth county and succeeded in doing so. Horizons has grown and changed in many ways since that initial charter was established, welcoming the Atrium home in 1989 and the Arches home in 1992. We are honored to continue advancing our Horizons Mission of serving people with higher medical acuity, and facilitating supports to live a desirable life. Please join us in becoming a part of our legacy and history today!
